Nordic ski teams first in FK meet

A Nordic ski meet was held Friday and an alpine meet the following day for local high school squads.
Fort Kent hosted the Nordic meet, with six boys teams and three boys teams taking part.


The Viking teams pulled off the sweep, with Caribou tallying a meet-low 19 points to win the boys competition over the host Warriors, Presque Isle, Madawaska, Ashland and Fort Fairfield.
Matt Toussaint of Fort Kent was the individual winner in 18:50, but Caribou teammates Riley McDuffie (19:07) and Mike Marquis (19:11) were right behind.
Caleb Willett, Bryce Coffin and Dan Randolph were other Vikes in the top 10.
The Caribou girls posted 12 points to best Fort Kent and Presque Isle.
The Vikes’ one-two combination of Sarah Doak and Lauren Chapman continued to dominate. Doak won in 21:13 and Chapman was next in 22:54. Eileen Patton, Ciara Richards, Madeline Gudde and Kaitlyn Ring also made the top 10.
At Bigrock in Mars Hill Saturday, Caribou was among numerous teams participating.
Leading the way for the Vikings were Andy Russell, who was 16th in the morning boys’ giant slalom in 2:00.55; Scott Bray, 17th in the afternoon boys’ race in 2:06.39; and Ciara Richards, 28th in the morning girls’ race in 2:26.06 and 20th in the afternoon boys’ race in 2:36.5.
A Nordic meet will be held in Caribou Thursday, with alpine meets slated for this afternoon beginning at 5 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., both at Lonesome Pine Trails in Fort Kent.
