Aroostook EMA (AKEMA) has been notified by Maine Emergency Management Agency that it will be receiving Homeland Security grant funding in the amount of $124,894.
This funding was applied for in September, and although the amount of funding continues to diminish year after year, we are still able to do a lot of good throughout Aroostook County.
Examples of projects that will be funded include continued support of our three WMD/Haz-Mat teams located in Madawaska, Presque Isle and Houlton; continued support of our Homeland Security Exercise program; continued support for emergency operations planning for all communities in our Aroostook County; support of our Community Response Teams, such as the one in Caribou and the two Aroostook County teams that specialize in emergency communications and pet sheltering.
Additionally, this funding will provide body cameras to law enforcement agencies throughout Aroostook County that will protect the integrity of law enforcement officers and police departments, as well as the citizens they work with.
This grant funding is provided without the need for a local match, so projects can move forward quickly and communities do not have to come up with any additional funds.
