Martin could bid for local house seat

SINCLAIR — Former Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Commissioner, Roland “Danny” Martin, a life-long resident of the St. John Valley, is considering making a bid for House District 150 in 2014.

“I’ve been asked by several friends and supporters to consider running for state representative next year,” Martin said. “Although I have not yet decided to run, I am seriously considering it. The St. John Valley needs someone representing them with experience and political and institutional knowledge.”
“I know from past years, having served in both the Maine House and Senate, and as Governor Baldacci’s IF&W Commissioner, that Aroostook County and the St. John Valley needs someone who can speak for them, can work within the legislative system, and represent them with knowledge of the issues as they pertain to northern Maine,” Martin continued.
Martin said that because of declining population, Aroostook County has lost several legislative districts in the past 20 years.
“More now than ever, it is imperative that we send someone to Augusta that has a full knowledge of the legislative process,” He said.
Martin stated that he will be making a decision to run in early January.
Effective with the next election, State Representative District 150 will include the communities of Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, St. Agatha, Van Buren, and the unorganized territories of Cross Lake and Sinclair.
Rep. Ken Theriault (D-Madawaska) now holds this seat. He cannot run for reelection because of term limits.
