The Caribou varsity soccer teams enjoyed a splendid Saturday at home as both the girls and boys claimed comfortable victories over Foxcroft Academy.
The Viking girls dominated with a 37-1 advantage in shots on goals and a 21-0 edge in corner kicks, en route to the 6-0 triumph. Bria Judd scored three times, with Sarah Doak tallying twice and Delaney Williams a single goal. Judd also had two assiststs, while Erin Patton, Maddie Doucette, Emma Jandreau and Hailey Caron added one each.

“I thought we played well,” said Caribou coach Todd Albert. “We made some good passes and had many chances.”
In the boys’ match, goalkeepers usually don’t figure into the scoring, but Caribou’s Matt Manter registered two assists, both leading to goals by his cousin, Kameron Manter, as the Vikings got past Foxcroft, 5-2.
The Caribou senior ’keeper hit a couple long punts in the second half and Kameron Manter ran onto them, took the ball past the Ponies’ defense and slotted shots past goalkeeper Logan Butera and into the net.
Kameron Manter added another goal in the second half and also assisted on the first goal of the match by Colby Holdsworth. Michael Hunter finished a nifty give-and-go with Hunter Milliard for the team’s other goal.
Matt Manter had six saves on 11 shots for Caribou in goal.
“We played very well, possessing and passing the ball and being more patient in our buildup,” said Caribou coach Scott Hunter. “It was very nice to watch and a much more effective style of play.”
He said Foxcroft is a “dangerous team” offensively and had several good chances, one of which was cleared off the line by senior center back Matt Frost, one of several Vikings turning in strong performances, according to Hunter.
Against Ellsworth in road games earlier in the week, both the Caribou girls and boys were beaten.
In the girls’ match last Tuesday, Albert said his team “played hard,” but was unable to finish its scoring chances in the 3-0 loss. Morgan Card, Maddie Card and Katey Curtis were the goal scorers for the Eagles. Morgan Outing made nine saves in goal for Caribou.

Michael Hunter of the Caribou Vikings gets his head on the ball before Foxcroft’s Antonio Ayala does during Saturday’s home contest. Caribou picked up a 5-2 win.

The boys dropped a 5-1 decision to the Eagles last Wednesday. Matt Milliard scored Caribou’s lone goal off Taylor Thibodeau’s assist.
“It really was a much more evenly played game than the final score would suggest,” said coach Hunter. “However, (Ellsworth) is a very good team, very physical and have good speed and are very tough to beat, particularly on their home field.
“They were able to take us out of our game in the second half, pressuring us into kicking the ball forward and chasing rather than possessing and passing and making them chase us,” he added.
Matt Manter shared goalie duties with Ethan Plourde.
The Caribou girls are now 4-3 and the boys 4-3-1 on the campaign. The girls played John Bapst at the University of Maine Tuesday and the boys take on the Crusaders this afternoon. Ellsworth visits Caribou Saturday for a doubleheader.
The Fort Fairfield squads swept matches against Limestone-MSSM Thursday. The FF girls, now carrying an 8-2 record, had four different players score in the 5-1 victory. Janae Libby had two, while Logan Bubar, Sarah Owens and Taylor Churchill added one each. Bubar also assisted on two goals.
Chelsey Pelkey scored the lone Limestone-MSSM goal.
The Tiger boys won their second match of the season with the 2-1 verdict. Ryan Player scored a goal in each half to provide the offense. Dalton Cassidy saved four of five shots in goal for the 2-6-2 winners.
Anas Beshir had the Eagle goal and goalkeeper Sam Kupiec turned away five of seven shots.
