Area volunteers help Fort Kent fire victims

According to Joyce Knorr, Aroostook County branch manager of the American Red Cross – Pine Tree Chapter, at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, emergency service workers were called to the scene of  multi-unit fires on Main Street in Fort Kent. The workers provided immediate assistance to families who were in need of accommodations, food, clothing and comfort. An additional crew of workers were at the Fort Kent Town Office on Monday, providing support services for others affected by the devastating weekend fires.

The Red Cross provides immediate disaster mental health services to those affected to cope with loss. Any victims, firefighters, law enforcement personnel, town officials, business owners or others involved who are in need of emotional support are encouraged to contact the Red Cross emergency services department at 493-4620, ext. 3.
