• Potatoes are at 70 and 72 cents per barrel today.
• S.W. Collins and Son’s teams are busily engaged in hauling logs from the yards to the lake branch landing on Caribou Stream.
100 Years Ago: Jan. 25, 1912
• The attendance at Dreamland Theater still continues to be large and Manager Craig is endeavoring to give the public the highest class of pictures.
• George Giggey came very near to losing his team last Thursday. He started to break a road from the Calkins Flat to Sylvester Kelly’s and when about the middle of the river, the ice gave way and the team went in; and the horse was in the water over an hour before they got it out, but the team got out safe after a hard struggle.
75 Years Ago: Jan 28, 1937
• W.P. Roberts has accepted a selling position with the National Confectionery Co.
• Following tryouts at the high school Tuesday and Wednesday, selections have been made for those who are to participate in the annual Junior Exhibition, and announcement was made this morning by Principal John A. Partridge of the following: Anita Cote, Annalda Cote, Margaret Doyle, Rose Freme, Elizabeth Johnson, Philip Blackstone, Milton Carter, William Crandall, Keith Milton and Jack Sullivan.
• The many friends of Irvine E. Peterson are congratulating him on his appointment as judge of the Caribou Municipal Court. He received word by telephone from Augusta yesterday that his nomination by Gov. Lewis O. Barrows had been confirmed by the governor’s council. It is also understood that the nomination of W.P. Hamilton as recorder of the court has also been confirmed.
50 Years Ago: Jan. 25, 1962
• There isn’t a good-sized pile of snow within 100 miles of Caribou and after last winter’s 144-inch fall, the citizenry has reason to wonder what is happening. The year before was a good one, too, for snowfall, with more than 130 inches.
• Miss Karen Espling will represent New Sweden in the Junior Miss Maine contest in Caribou Feb. 2 and 3. Miss Espling is a senior at Caribou High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Uno Espling. She is being sponsored by the New Sweden Grange.
• A2C James M. Wark of Loring Air Force Base has been selected to be presented in the “Know Your Air Policeman Series.” He has been at Loring for 20 months. Airman Wark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wark of Woodland and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Wark, also of Woodland. He was stationed at Loring after completing basic training air Police School at Lackland AFB, Texas.
