LIMESTONE — The results are in, and the number-one most requested business by Limestone residents is a coffee shop/bakery.
Following just behind the coffee shop request is Limestone community members’ desire to see a “dollar store” in town as well as increased health services, like a doctor’s office and a pharmacy.
Orchestrated by members of Limestone’s Downtown Revitalization Committee and facilitated by Wright-Pierce officials, a one-page survey (front and back) was sent to 943 Limestone homes in October.
Two members of the Downtown Revitalization Committee, Town Manager Donna Bernier and Selectperson Gary O’Neal, discussed the survey results with the Limestone Board of Selectpeople during their last meeting on Dec. 7.
Bernier informed the selectpeople that Wright Pierce officials thought 101 returned surveys of 943 to be a good showing of responses.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to use that when we put in for our revitalization grant,” Bernier told the selectpeople.
The committee intends to apply for a Revitalization Grant though the Economic and Community Development Program — just one of many grants the committee is seeking to help foster improvements in Limestone’s downtown.
O’Neal informed the selectpeople that there were many different types of businesses community members would like to see in town — even the new nursing home that’s slated for construction this spring.
“People just want some different businesses in town, and a lot of people are saying the taxes are too high for the services they’re getting,” O’Neal said.
In her manager’s report, Bernier also presented the selectpeople with an update on the Town Office’s phone line.
According to Bernier, one of the town’s lines was being diverted to a Madawaska residence.
“I spoke with her and apologized, and she said don’t worry about it whatsoever,”
said Bernier.
While the line was quickly repaired to prevent any more calls to Madawaska, the town’s answering service was still not functioning properly as of Tuesday afternoon.
The next meeting of the Limestone Selectpeople is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 at the Limestone Municipal Building.
