AR Tammie EnglundCARIBOU – Tammie Jean Englund, 45, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at her home, after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born March 18, 1965, in Caribou, the youngest daughter of Kelton “Bruce” and Laura Agnes Somers. She graduated from Caribou High School in 1983. She worked in manufacturing, home care and housekeeping. She had a strong work ethic and associated her accomplishments in the workplace with her own feeling of self worth. She married Scott W. Englund of Caribou, June 11, 1988. Together they raised two beautiful daughters and sometimes a house full of pets. She dearly loved her golden retriever, Buddy. Tammie was an avid reader of mysteries, loved crime investigation TV shows, and had an uncanny ability to complete the most difficult of jigsaw puzzles before the average person could put the frame together. She collected tea animals and also had a collection of key chains numbering in the thousands. She had a dry sense of humor and always had a quick comeback, a trait inherited from her father, Bruce. In her own words, she didn’t sugar coat anything. The few she allowed to be close to her knew her as a soft hearted, thoughtful and caring person. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2010, and the disease spread rapidly and without mercy. Her final days were spent peacefully at home, surrounded by friends and family.

Tammie is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kimberly and Sarah, all of Caribou; brothers, Michael Somers and Thomas Somers and his wife, Debbie; sisters, Betty Moody, Linda Gallagher and Patricia Skrable; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Englund; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her father-in-law, James Englund; and siblings, Ronald, Donna and Barbara Somers.

The family expresses a heartfelt appreciation for the untiring efforts of Kim Flemings of Limestone for her tender and loving care of Tammie in her final days.

At Tammie’s request, there will be no funeral service. It would also be her wish that you give flowers to someone close to you and cherish your time with them.
