The Caribou Middle School boys soccer team won its final five matches to finish a very successful season with a 10-2-2 record. The team’s final match was a 3-0 victory over Houlton last Wednesday. Kameron Manter slammed home two of the goals and Dayne Savage had the other and also picked up an assist. Tyler Strid added an assist and Michael Boone, Colby Holdsworth, Alex Scott and Matt Frost all played well for the Vikings.
Caribou handed Presque Isle White its first loss in league play by scoring both of its goals in the second half in the 2-1 win Sept. 22.
Matt Milliard scored the winning goal and played a tremendous all-around game to lead the Vikes. Savage scored off a Manter assist for the team’s other goal. Goalie Cody Herbert made several outstanding saves in goal. Matt Frost, Breen Blackstone and Austin Caverhill were the defensive standouts.
Caribou then shut out PI Blue on Sept. 24, 3-0, with Manter providing a goal and two assists. Savage and Adam Collins also scored goals for the winners, while Michael Boone provided an assist with a well-placed corner kick. Alex Scott and Mitch St. Peter also had strong games for CMS.
On Sept. 25, Caribou bested Fort Kent in overtime, 2-1, with Manter scoring the game-winning goal. Collins scored off a Savage assist for the team’s other goal. Milliard, Blackstone and Taylor Thibodeau all played well defensively and Herbert again made numerous outstanding saves.
In a rematch against the Warriors three days later, Caribou’s strong passing game led to a 3-1 triumph. Savage had two goals and Manter netted a goal and also chipped in with two assists for the winners. Milliard, Greg Martin and Caverhill were the defensive leaders for the Vikes. Devin Cyr, Brendan Cyr, Alex Murchison, St. Peter and Dustin Bouchard all were outstanding as offensive playmakers for coach Steve Perreault’s squad.
The Vikings scored 31 goals on the season while allowing just 13 and recorded five shutouts.
