Wallagrass group plans Mother’s Day supper, PondFest return

WALLAGRASS, Maine — The Wallagrass/Soldier Pond Revitalization Committee will host a lasagna supper on Mother’s Day and has announced the date of the 9th annual PondFest celebration.

Both events will raise funds for new benches at a veterans memorial and a planned gazebo at the Fish River boat landing in Soldier Pond.

The Mother’s Day supper will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Wallagrass Community Center.

Flowering plants will adorn tables and be available to purchase as special gifts for mothers. The meal will include homemade lasagna, coleslaw, rolls and dessert.

“You cannot get a meal like this for $15 anywhere these days, not even at McDonalds,” committee head Elaine Desjardins said.

Those who purchase tickets in advance will be given a free raffle ticket, which otherwise sells for five dollars. A drawing will be held at the event for a 10 foot by 20 foot canopy.

Bagpipe music will be a new addition to the 9th annual PondFest, which will take place on July 2 in downtown Soldier Pond.

“Every year my husband has been saying, ‘It’s too bad we couldn’t get some bagpipes,’ but it’s hard to get them,” Desjardins said.

Desjardins enlisted Catherine Pearce of Machias, also known as the Irish Hills Piper, to perform at PondFest, which will kick off at noon with a barbecue and wind down in the evening with fireworks.
