PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook Agency on Aging will exhibit the work of southern Aroostook artist Gina Parent in May as part of the Artists for Aging initiative. Parent will present a large selection of her works, as well as prints and greeting cards, during an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 5.

Parent is a mixed media artist who has lived in Hodgdon all of her life. She has loved to paint and create  all of her life and some of her mentors were Mary Rouse (oils), Esther Faulkner (watercolor), and Ann Kittredge (mixed media).

“Color plays an important part in my paintings and I am particularly drawn to florals and birds. I have  retired from working in the outside world and have been a full-time artist working out of my home studio  for seven years,” she said.

Parent has two grown daughters and five grandchildren and lives with her husband Kevin and little dog  Stella.

The May 5 Artists for Aging event, held during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk, is free and open to the  public. Artists exhibiting works at the Agency on Aging agree to donate 20 percent of their sales to support  its programs and services.
