MADAWASKA, Maine — There was just enough time in the basketball season this year for Carsen Cyr of Madawaska to squeeze in his 1,000th career high school basketball point.
It’s one of many athletic accomplishments he has garnered over the years.
“I felt very relived that I had finally hit it in the last game of the season,” Cyr said.
Cyr, who started all four years of high school for the varsity Owls, racked up his 1,000th point with a free throw bucket on the road at George Stevens Academy.
“Carsen had a really long, consistent and successful career at Madawaska High School,” Coach Dean Gendreau said. “He accomplished something that is very rarely done and he did it during very hard times with COVID and all of its restrictions.”
Cyr was also an All Aroostook selection and was named a McDonald’s All Star this year.
“Carsen has always had a drive to be successful. He was a tough, hard-nosed player not afraid to dive for a loose ball or take a charge, Gendreau said. “He was always the first at practice and the last to leave.”
Cyr’s drive, intelligence and leadership will be hard to replace both on and off the court next season, the coach said.
Cyr is a four-sport athlete, also competing for the Madawaska soccer, baseball and tennis teams. This past fall he surpassed 100 career soccer goals and helped lead his team to a spot in the Class D state championship soccer game.
His parents are Curtis and Julie Cyr.
“My parents and family definitely helped me reach this goal by always pushing me to do my best,” Carsen Cyr said. “I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates along the way.”
