ST. AGATHA, Maine – Seniors Abbie Lerman and Dominick Gendreau have been selected as Wisdom’s Aroostook League Scholar-Athletes for 2023. Selections are made annually based on students who have demonstrated success in the classroom and in the area of athletics.

Lerman of St. Agatha, the daughter of Douglas and Tammie Lerman, has been a standout athlete during her years at Wisdom. She has been a member of the soccer and basketball teams since her eighth grade year. Lerman is a three-time Butch Shaw Award winner in soccer, a 100-goal scorer, and a 4-time All-Aroostook selection. In basketball, she has been All-Aroostook each of the past three seasons. Lerman has also played softball and volleyball for the Pioneers. She has been chosen to take part in the McDonald’s All-Star game, and this fall, was named the Heisman Scholarship female award winner for the state of Maine.

Lerman has excelled in academics, as well, achieving high honors consistently, being a member of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society, and serving in an executive role for Student Council. She is serving as the president of NHS and the Student Council this year, while also being class president for each of the past four years. For the past two school years, Lerman has also been a student representative on the SAD 33 Board of Directors.

She plans to study business administration after high school, but has not yet chosen a college to attend.

Gendreau of Frenchville, the son of Corey Gendreau and Jennifer Cyr, has also been a competitor in multiple sports at Wisdom. He has played varsity soccer and basketball since his eighth grade year. Gendreau has been a two-time All-Aroostook selection in basketball, scoring his 1,000th point this season. He has also played baseball and volleyball.

Gendreau is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council — serving this year as the treasurer for both clubs. He has been a consistent honor roll student during his time at Wisdom, and has been his class treasurer each of the past four years.

Gendreau will be attending Northern Maine Community College this fall, where he will be studying electrical construction and maintenance.

Lerman and Gendreau will be honored at the annual Aroostook League Scholar-Athlete banquet, to be held March 16 at the Caribou Regional Technology Center. Both students will have the chance to receive scholarships at the banquet, courtesy of the Aroostook League Scholarship Fund.
