ST. AGATHA, Maine — Wisdom High School senior Olivia Ouellette scored her 1,000th career basketball point during a game against East Grand on Saturday.

The senior athlete is a standout for the Pioneers, which have a strong chance to advance to the Class D tournament championships. Ouellette helped propel the team to a 15-1 record last year that led to an appearance in the Class D North championship game.

Going into Saturday’s game, Ouellette needed five points to make 1,000. An athlete prone to scoring double digits in games, she was confident she’d reach the goal during the home game.

Ouellette scored her 1,000th point off a rebound layup. She scored 24 points in all during the matchup, which Wisdom won.

“When I scored, I felt excited to finally achieve this milestone. It was awesome to see my teammates support me and running to congratulate me,” she said.

Wisdom girls’ Coach Scott Pelletier was not surprised when Ouellette sunk the benchmark basket.

“Her determination and strong work ethic have contributed to her success and this wonderful achievement,” Pelletier said.

Pelletier said Ouellette is a great leader and a captain on the team.

“She is not only a great scorer, but also our #1 rebounder. Almost every night Olivia has a double/double averaging 24 points a game and 15 rebounds a game,” Ouellette said. “She holds herself and her teammates to a high standard and I could not be more proud of her.”

Ouellette credits her coaches over the years and teammates for helping her to achieve the goal.

“If it weren’t for each one of them I would not be the player that I am today,” she said.

Ouellette also plays soccer and softball at Wisdom and is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and athletic club.

Her parents are Shawn Ouellette and Amy Ouellette.
