Undefeated Wisdom girls squeeze past Fort Kent

FORT KENT, Maine – The pursuit of perfection continues for the Wisdom varsity girls basketball team after fending of the team’s toughest challenge to date.

On Monday, Jan. 2, the Pioneers faced their closest game yet — a showdown with rival Fort Kent — but managed to escape with a thrilling 41-40 victory over the Warriors.

With the win, the Class D Pioneers moved to 6-0 on the season and are currently ranked second behind Southern Aroostook — the only other Class D North girls team to remain undefeated. Surprisingly, those two squads do not face each other during the regular season, which means their first meeting will likely come in the playoffs.

In Monday’s game, Lilly Roy led the way for Wisdom with a game-high 26 points including five 3-point buckets. Olivia Ouellette added seven points and Alexis Silva had six on a pair of 3-pointers.

For the Warriors, Larissa Daigle scored 13 points, followed by Lily Werntgen with 12, all from behind the 3-point arc. Lily Oliver added eight. Fort Kent now sits at 3-3 on the season.
