Fort Kent girls team takes first at Aroostook League race, Caribou racers top individual racers

FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Community High School girls Nordic ski team raced to a win in the Aroostook League 5K Freestyle on the Warriors’ home course at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center on Tuesday, Dec. 21. 

The Fort Kent girls scored an event high 789 points for the win. Caribou took second with 774 points, followed by Presque Isle (766) and Ashland (369).

Only 5 points separated the top three teams in the boys race. Ashland took first with 776 points. Caribou finished in second place with 774 points, and Fort Kent was third with 771 points. Southern Aroostook registered 200 points. 

Luke Streinz of Caribou was the fastest individual of 36 racers at the event, completing two laps in a combined time of 14:41. Fletcher Marquis of Fort Kent had the second lowest time of 16:12.8. Viking Michael Cyr came in third at 16:55.1.

A Caribou athlete also took first in individual scores for the girls. Kaylee Bell finished with a time of 17:06.1. Fort Kent’s Rowan Tanguay (17:41.6) and Nancy Martin (18:51.7) rounded out the top three.
