Fort Fairfield qualifies for states with top finish at Aroostook County golf event

MARS HILL, Maine — It is on to the state golf championships for the Fort Fairfield golf team following the Tigers’ impressive victory in the Aroostook County League Championship Thursday at the Mars Hill Country Club.

In addition, Madawaska’s Sam Dufresne and Cam Derosier, along with Fort Kent’s Kaden Theriault, also qualified as individuals for the state competition. Both the team and individual state championships will be played simultaneously at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro Oct. 9.

In order to qualify for the states as an individual, a boy golfer needed to shoot 90 or better on the day. Only five of the 25 golfers managed to qualify.

The Tigers easily captured the team title with their score of 375. Fort Fairfield’s Michael Bruce shot an 80, earning him the title of medalist on the day. Other Tiger scores were: Chase Coiley, 85; Jonah Bernard, 104; Brett Senal, 106; and Blake Senal, 132.

Central Aroostook finished second on the day with a team score of 467, followed by Ashland with a 470. Hodgdon, Fort Kent, Southern Aroostook and Madawaska did not have enough golfers to score as a team.

The individual scores for CAHS were: Wyatt Allen, 98; Abram McCrum, 110; Trace Kinney, 128; and Taylor Bradstreet, 131.

The individual scores for Ashland were: Dakota Sutherland, 114; Micah Calhoun, 115; Ellie Calhoun, 117; Clyde Hafford, 124; Benny Davis, 164; and Nathum Davies, 168.

The individual scores for Southern Aroostook were: Connor Walker, 117; Buddy Porter, 141; and Trafton Russell, 142.

The individual scores for Hodgdon were: David Tuttle, 95; George Gaddis, 137; and Joseph Griffin, 152.

Fort Kent’s Alex Nadeau finished with a 112.
