Bishop in Rome

Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland walks to a meeting in Rome with Bishop Edgar Moreira da Cunha, SDV, of the Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts.

The bishop is wrapping up an “ad limina apostolorum” visit to Pope Francis at the Vatican. All bishops are required to travel to Rome to visit with the Holy Father and report on the state of their dioceses as well as make a pilgrimage to “the threshold of the apostles,” giving the bishops, who are the successors of the apostles, the opportunity to pray at the tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul.
