CARIBOU, Maine — The Center for the Advancement of Rural Living will welcome Maine humorist Tim Sample back to the Caribou Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.
A Maine native, Sample is widely considered to be the state’s leading humorist. Known throughout the country for both his presentation and his Maine accent, Sample spent 11 years as a correspondent for the Emmy Award-winning show “CBS News Sunday Morning.” In addition to appearances across the country, he has performed on television and radio, recorded several Downeast humor albums, and has written and illustrated multiple books.
Sample was one of the first performers at the CPAC, and center officials said they are excited to see him return to its stage.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Sleepers and Options in Caribou, Bradley’s Citgo in Presque Isle, The Aroostook Center Mall, Hebert Rexall Pharmacy in Van Buren and at the door. Children under 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
The nonprofit center began in 2011 with the goal of filling in the gaps that exist in cultural, socio-economic, agricultural and other elements of the quality of life in rural Northern Maine. CARL has championed several initiatives, including a homeless shelter for veterans and Recovery Aroostook, a program that aids individuals recovering from alcohol or substance abuse disorder.
Its latest project, launched in 2019, is a plan to reinvigorate the performing arts in the area by revitalizing the CPAC and bringing quality acts to The County. The effort has proven successful and the group plans to establish an advisory group known as “The Friends of the Arts” and to continue to craft a lineup of acts that will bring quality, family entertainment to Aroostook County.
