Both sides, please

To the editor: Staff writer Jessica Potila in The March 15 issue puts forth what I see as a one-sided story of a 74-year-old man who (given no other motive provided) opted to shoot his across-the-street neighbor's dog.

Remembering Pepere

To the editor: He died at the age of 68. Cause of death? Doctor said "overwork.” His name was Joseph Jean. He was my grandfather.

The question of asylum

To the editor: On Feb. 17, 2022, Susan Collins and Kyrsten Sinema introduced a bill to help asylum seekers obtain jobs more quickly. The proposed legislation was co-sponsored by Angus King. I have some questions about that bill and it all hinges on how one defines asylum.

Greatness of a nation

To the editor: God bless the U.S.A. Where else can a man who spent his entire childhood and early adulthood at the very bottom of his schoolroom class grow up and win a senatorial election? Where else can this same person hide in his basement for months and win his nation's highest office?

Casting my vote for Appleby

To the editor: Although not born in the Valley, I have spent nearly my entire life and my working career as a family nurse practitioner here. I raised my beautiful family in Fort Kent. Anyone who knows me, knows how deeply I love the people of the Valley.

Paradis will represent the Valley well

To the editor: In the Valley, we were raised to respect our elders. But too often they find themselves struggling to pay for heat, electricity and food, not to mention property taxes. Respect for elders should mean fixing these issues and making life better for them.

Don’t betray public trust

To the editor, Election season is a mixed blessing for me. It consists of highs and lows. The rhetoric we hear from candidates rarely resembles the reality that serving in elected office means. Technically, most of us realize that the work encompasses daily sacrifices for the constituency.

To the editor: There are times when the solution to a problem is so obvious that it makes one wonder why the problem exists at all. The debacle at our southern border is one example.

To the editor: For 35 years, I have lived in the wonderfully supportive Fort Kent community. With another 10 years in Maine, I have lived more than half my life here.

Cast your vote for Jackson

To the editor: There is no question that Troy Jackson is the best person to represent us in the Maine Senate. No matter how busy the man is, he always makes time for those who need him. Last week, Troy stopped by my house to hear my concerns as a small Maine farmer.

Jackson stands up for parents

To the editor: Three years ago, all the children living in Cross Lake and attending school in Fort Kent, like mine, were informed that they had to attend a different school district. We were told it was due to a busing issue.

Paradis will work for important issues

To the editor: The car coming in our driveway had a license plate with Fizzit on it. Indeed, it was House of Representative for District 2 candidate Ben Paradis, a native of Frenchville, son of Lucien and Marie, one of 12 siblings.

Consider Appleby when you vote

To the editor: Dana Appleby is running for Maine House District 1. Dana is a new apple to the batch but don’t let her name pass you by. She is running against a former NASCAR driver but don’t be sidetracked. Dana will drive Maine forward and keep us on course.

Working on election effort

To the editor: This November is the most important election of our lifetime as freedom and our children’s futures are on the ballot. Paul LePage and Republicans up and down the ticket in Maine are offering real solutions to historic inflation, Biden’s border crisis, and an opioid epidemic that is out of control.

Regional veterinary clinic

To the editor: An article appeared in the Sept. 7 issue of the Aroostook Republican announcing that the volunteers of Halfway Home Pet Rescue in Caribou are planning to open a regional veterinary clinic. This clinic is desperately needed in northern Maine.

Keep it up, Madawaska

To the editor: We have never been so impressed upon our return to our hometown of Madawaska to see the wonderful results of this year's Madawaska Planning Committee, such as Thursday’s NorState Music in the Park, our beautifully decorated Main Street, more pocket parks replacing dilapidated buildings, plus putting on the yearly Acadian Festival.

Looking for equal treatment

To the editor: I just finished reading the fawning article on Austin Theriault"s opponent. I searched for an equally informative piece on Roger Albert"s announcement for the Maine House of Representative and found none.
