Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash recently welcomed Dr. Fern Desjardins of St. Agatha to the Maine Senate. Dr. Desjardins was unanimously confirmed for a second term on the State Board of Education, which she currently chairs.

“Fern is so passionate about the work she does as an educator; it is deeply inspiring to me. She has served her community in Aroostook County, and the entire state, for decades,” said Jackson. “It is an honor to confirm her to a second term on the Board of Education, where her experience, wisdom, kindness, and commitment are a great service to the students, parents, and educators in the State of Maine. On top of that, she’s been a great friend and it was really special to recognize Fern and her family in the Senate chamber.” Dr. Desjardins has been an educator and school administrator, including superintendent of SAD 33, for over 40 years. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Maine. She will be serving her second consecutive five-year term on the Board.
