50 Years Ago — Dec. 14,  1972

    Eldon Gendreau receives certificate Eldon Gendreau received his certificate for completing the management trainee course for operations of Mr. Donut shops. Gendreau, a Madawaska native and graduate of Madawaska High School, can claim that his store is the most northerly Mr. Donut in the United States.

The U.S. Army veteran is married to the former Gloria Doiron of Edmundston and has a daughter, Judy Ann. Gendreau was formerly a branch manager for the Public Financing Co.

25 Years Ago — Dec. 17, 1997

Coach of the year — Ed Marshall, girls soccer coach at Madawaska High School, has been honored with being named East Girls Soccer Coach of the Year. Marshall and his Lady Owls were Class C State Champions this past season in 1997.

Chow time Clifford Paradis and his crew of Knights of Columbus and wives put on a terrific meal of stuffed chicken with all the trimmings for the annual KC and wives Christmas banquet. Some 150 Knights and the wives were served by the crew.

10 Years Ago — Dec. 12, 2012 

Celebrating 91 years on 12-12-12 — Rita Bosse, who has made Madawaska her home for more than 90 years, turns 91 today. Bossie is the mother of 16 children, who live in cities across the U.S. Her hobbies include taking care of the new pellet stove in her Route 1 home and reading the daily and weekly newspapers.
