St. John Valley weather for Nov. 23-29, 2022

A cold front moves through today producing some isolated/scattered snow showers with little/no accumulation since little moisture is associated with this system. High pressure will build down from the north tonight with mostly clear skies, light winds, and frigid temperatures are expected overnight with lows dropping into the 0 degrees to -5 degrees range in Fort Kent and vicinity. Across northern Maine, overnight lows range from -10 degrees in the Allagash to around 1 degrees in eastern portions of the County.

High pressure will bring cold temperatures and sunny skies to the Valley Thanksgiving Day. Partly cloudy skies develop Thursday afternoon as the next system approaches. Skies become mostly cloudy overnight into Friday.

Mostly cloudy skies Friday morning become overcast in the afternoon as a fast-moving frontal system moves across the region producing some snow in the afternoon and snow showers overnight into Saturday.

Today and tonight

Partly sunny with a high around 28 degrees. 20 percent chance for snow showers. Wind becoming northwest 10-12 mph.

Wednesday night, mostly clear with a low near -3 degrees. Northwest wind 4-5 mph in the evening become west 2-3 mph overnight. Wind chill values as low as -10F overnight.

Thursday, Nov. 24 / US Thanksgiving Day

Mostly sunny in the morning then partly cloudy in the afternoon with a high near 26 degrees. West wind 2-5 mph.

Thursday night, partly cloudy with a low near 10 degrees. South wind near calm.

Friday, Nov. 25

Mostly cloudy early then becoming overcast in the afternoon with a 70 percent chance for snow in the afternoon. High near 35 degrees. South wind 5-6 mph.

Friday night, mostly cloudy with a low near 25 degrees. 50 percent chance for snow showers overnight. West wind 0-7 mph.

Days 4 to 7: Saturday-Tuesday

Partly sunny skies are expected Saturday with partly cloudy skies Saturday night as a ridge of high pressure briefly builds across the Valley.

A closed-upper low over Texas will track northeast and become an open wave with a surface low pressure and frontal system tracking into the Ohio Valley Sunday morning then across Maine later Sunday. Warmer air from the departing high pressure ridge is expected to produce mostly rain for northern Maine Sunday afternoon into the overnight hours. However, if cold air damming occurs on the eastern side of the Appalachians, then a wintry mix could also be possible for the SJV.

Nonetheless, colder air moving back into the region Monday will change precipitation to snow showers that linger into Monday night.  High pressure is expected to bring brisk northwest winds and partly cloudy skies Tuesday and partly cloudy and cold temperatures Tuesday night.

Saturday, Nov. 26

Partly sunny with a high around 35 degrees. West wind 0-7 mph.

Saturday night, partly cloudy with a slight chance for snow showers overnight. Low near 22 degrees. South wind 0-7 mph.

Sunday, Nov. 27

Mostly cloudy with a high around 37 degrees. A 60 percent chance for rain/snow in the afternoon. Southeast wind 0-7 mph.

Sunday night, partly cloudy with a low near 31 degrees. 60 percent chance for rain in the evening then rain/snow overnight. West wind 0-7 mph.

Monday, Nov. 28

Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance for snow showers. High around 35 degrees. Northwest wind 8-14 mph.

Monday night, partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance for snow showers. Low near 20 degrees. Northwest wind 8-14 mph.

Tuesday, Nov. 29

Partly cloudy and breezy with a high near 31 degrees. Northwest wind 8-14 mph.

Tuesday night, partly cloudy with a low near 15 degrees. Northwest wind 8-14 mph.
