Fort Kent craft fair doubles in size

FORT KENT, Maine – Shoppers looking for homemade and handcrafted Christmas gifts will have plenty to choose from at the Greater Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce 42nd Annual Arts and Crafts Fair the weekend after Thanksgiving.

This year’s fair will feature more than 50 vendors, up from 25 last year.

“This year we were able to double people’s spaces and we chose not to have a cutoff or wait list,” Chamber Executive Director Amber Rankine said. “If we were going to have an overflow we were going to find them space; we didn’t want to say ‘no’ to anyone. That was kind of our motto.”

Among the many items available at the fair will be homemade bath and body products, wall art, crafted and knitted items, wooden utensils, clothing for children and adults, teas, holiday decor, jewelry, clay pots, desserts and more, Rankine said.

A new attraction of the craft fair will be a business basket raffle. Shoppers who purchase items at select businesses in town will be provided with a ticket for a chance to win the basket, stuffed with prizes.

“It’s the place to get your Christmas shopping done locally and enjoy the company of many amazing people,” Rankine said. “This craft fair is a huge part of the Valley people’s hearts, whether it be those who reside here, those who travel here or families visiting for the holidays. They all look forward to it.”

The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will be held at several locations this year. There will be 8 tables at Lonesome Pine Trails and 44 tables set up both upstairs and downstairs at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Crafters will also set up at several businesses in town.
