Boynton returns to Wisdom as boys basketball coach

ST. AGATHA, Maine – A familiar face at Wisdom Middle/High School has returned to coach the Pioneer boys basketball team.

Nathan Boynton replaces previous Pioneers coach Dom Rossignol.

Boynton, 26, is a 2014 Wisdom graduate who coached the middle school boys and girls basketball teams during the 2015 season. He then coached the varsity boys basketball and baseball teams for the next two years, as well as the 2018 boys volleyball tournament.

Boynton said he missed coaching basketball during the seasons he was away.

“This sport has given me so much, so the opportunity to coach young athletes and help them reach their potential is the best,” he said. “It’s also nice to give back to the community that has made a huge impact in my life.”

Wisdom Athletic Director Tammie Lerman said Boynton will help the players exceed their potential.

“When you have a coach who can motivate their team, it’s only natural that the success will come easier and your players will be more inclined to give their best consistently. I believe Coach Boynton is the right person to motivate our student athletes,” Lerman said.

Boynton said he is stepping into a strong basketball program. The Pioneer boys advanced to the Class D North quarterfinals last year.

“After a successful season last year I look to have a very energetic and competitive team, the goal is always to win and get to Bangor,” Boynton said.

Boynton works as head brewer and taproom manager at First Mile Brewing Company in Fort Kent.

He lives in Madawaska with his wife Amanda and the family dog, a 5-year-old Corgi named Mosby.

In the winter Boynton participates in downhill skiing and snowshoeing, and during the warmer months he enjoys hiking and spending time on the lake.
