Fort Kent girls cross country qualifies for state competition

BELFAST, Maine — By virtue of its fourth place finish at the Class C Regionals Saturday, the Fort Kent girls cross country team has punched its ticket to the state competition.

Held at Troy Howard Middle School, the Warriors placed fourth out of 10 squads in the girls meet with 123 points. 

Orono won the girls competition with a score of 29. Other squads qualifying for states were Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy (51 points), George Stevens Academy (90) and Maine Central Institute (138).

The state Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Twin Brook in Cumberland.

At the regional meet, individual results for Fort Kent runners were: 17, Rowan Tanguay, 22 minutes, 42.05 seconds; 24, Mira Kelly, 23:51.48; 30, Annabelle Reardon, 24:23.99; 41, Addison Chasse, 26:09.30; and 43, Lily Oliver, 26:19.57.

The Fort Kent boys did not have enough runners to qualify as a team, but did see its individual runners achieve success. Alden Reardon placed 10th out of 92 runners with a time of 18:37.72, while Gavin Albert placed 82nd at 27:43.14.
