Warriors, Shires split soccer wins in Fort Kent

FORT KENT, Maine – The Fort Kent boys varsity soccer team shut out Houlton 8-0 Monday, while the Fort Kent girls fell to undefeated Houlton, 2-1. 

In the boys contest, Wil Roy led Fort Kent in scoring with the first three goals of the game assisted by Caleb Lavertu, Kaden Theriault and Mason Tagget. 

Theriault scored the next three goals with an assist by Roy and two assists by Keegan Cyr. Cyr and Nathan Voisine each scored an unassisted goal. 

The second-seeded Warrior boys moved to 11-1 on the season with the win and are in position to host a playoff game once the season comes to an end. No. 4 Houlton dropped to 4-7 on the year.

In the girls game, Houlton’s Mylee Sylvia and Lydia Byron each scored a goal, while Ella McCarthy added an assist for the Shires.

Emlyn Nadeau scored the lone goal for the Warriors, off a pass from Julia Cyr.

Emma McCarthy had nine saves on 10 shots in goal for Houlton, while Mia Voisine made 12 saves on 14 shots for Fort Kent. Houlton remains unbeaten with a 12-0 record but are ranked fifth in Class C North.

The fourth seeded Warriors drop to 8-4 on the season with the loss.
