Van Buren students learn the history of ballooning — Van Buren elementary students from Pre-K through fourth grade listened as Bud and Judith Hebrlee of Frenchville and their crew prepared Bud’s 90-foot-tall balloon named “Aerloon.” The demonstration took place Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Van Buren District Secondary School. High wind conditions prevented the crew from heating the air and setting the balloon upright, but Bud shared his enthusiasm for the history and sport of ballooning in a short question-and-answer session. All of the children also had an opportunity to stand in the gondola and touch the balloon fabric. The program was sponsored by Abel J. Morneault Memorial Library and supported by the school administration.
