Wisdom girls capture summer soccer championship title
CARIBOU, Maine – The Wisdom Middle/High School girls soccer team captured the 7 vs 7 High School Summer Soccer Tourney championship title last week in Caribou.
The Pioneer girls, the defending Northern Class D Champions and State runners up Runners Up, have maintained their footing despite losing the majority of their defensive players to graduation.
Wisdom rolled through the preliminary portion of the tournament going undefeated with wins over Fort Kent 1 (5-1), Fort Kent 2 (3-1) and Ashland (3-1).
“Our team looked good out there,” Wisdom coach Pete Clavette said. “Their passing and link play was great and they made the most of every possession. Our defenders showed great poise and skill in repelling attacks and playing comfortably under pressure.”
The Pioneers faced tournament host Caribou in the semifinals, shutting out the Vikings 3-0. In the finals, Wisdom once again defeated their Class D rivals the Ashland Hornets, this time by a score of 4-2.
“All the teams today were competitive and there was some great soccer played all day,” Clavette said. “We are looking forward to getting the season started and this is a great way to round out our summer session.”
