Police arrest man who allegedly stole pickup truck from Fort Kent parking lot
FORT KENT, Maine — Fort Kent police arrested a St. Francis man they say stole a pickup truck from a Main Street parking lot in the town.
Someone drove off in a 2005 Ford F-250 that was parked in the lot at M&M Service Station in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 6.
A man captured on surveillance cameras in the area was seen operating a light blue pedal bike with a basket on the rack before allegedly taking the vehicle.
Police arrested Scott Gardner, 22, in Fort Kent on an unrelated warrant and charged him with violation of conditions of release and theft by unauthorized use of property, according to Fort Kent Police Chief Michael DeLena.
Police were able to determine Gardner’s whereabouts with assistance from members of the public, DeLena said.
The truck was found near Wallagrass Road in St. Francis the day after Gardner’s arrest.
The pickup had to be towed because it was damaged and couldn’t be driven.
Gardner was transported to Aroostook County Jail.
The case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending, DeLena said.
