St. John Valley Weather for March 30-April 5, 2022

3-Day Outlook: Wednesday-Friday

Partly cloudy and breezy conditions are expected today as high pressure continues to build across the Valley. Breezy northwest winds diminish in the afternoon and become southerly overnight as high pressure crests over the region. 

Clouds increase after midnight tonight as a warm front ahead of a low pressure area over the Great Lakes approaches. 

Cloudy skies with a wintry mix Thursday morning give way to rain Thursday afternoon continuing overnight into Friday as the warm front crosses the region and surface low pressure approaches from the Great Lakes. 

Rain is likely Friday and Friday evening mixing with snow Friday night that tapers to snow showers Saturday morning as colder air builds in on blustery northwest winds. 

the National Weather Service in Caribou noted in their hydrology discussion the latest measurements of the snowpack show areas along and east of Route 11 and north of I-95 as near “ripe.” This means any rainfall will cause the snowpack to melt and release water into the rivers and streams. Snow water equivalents are running 5-11 inches across the North with the most in the St. John Valley and south along Route 11 to Winterville. 

Model differences continue to cause less confidence in rainfall totals at this time but the potential exist for 1/2 to 1 inch. We will likely continue to see slow decay of the ice on the two main rivers. There is a potential ice may begin to move in the areas that have already seen ice decay. At this time not expecting a widespread ice jam concern.”

Wednesday night, partly cloudy in the evening then becoming cloudy overnight with a30 percent chance for snow after midnight. Precipitation totals less than 5/100ths inch. Low around 20 degrees. West wind around 3 mph becoming southeast 3-4 mph after midnight.

Thursday, March 31 

Cloudy with a 60 percent chance for a wintry mix changing to rain in the afternoon. Patchy fog in the morning. Precipitation totals around 5/100ths inch. High around 37 degrees. Southeast wind 6-10 mph.

Thursday night, cloudy with a 60 percent chance for rain. Rainfall totals between 1/10th and 1/4 inch. Patchy fog possible overnight. Low near 35 degrees. Southeast wind 0-5 mph. 

Friday, April 1 

Cloudy with a 90 percent chance for rain. Rainfall totals between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. High around 46 degrees. Wind becoming west 8-9 mph.

Friday night, cloudy with a 60 percent chance for rain and snow. Low around 26 degrees. Northwest wind 8-14 mph.

4- to 7 Day Outlook: Saturday-Tuesday

Snow showers taper off by Saturday afternoon with partly cloudy skies developing Saturday night. Partly sunny skies are expected Sunday with breezy northwest winds. Clouds increase Sunday night with mostly cloudy skies and morning snow and afternoon rain showers are expected Monday as an upper trough crosses the St. John Valley. A ridge of high pressure builds in Tuesday with partly cloudy skies across the region.
