Visit Times -- Children in grades 5-8 from Allagash toured the offices of the St. John Valley Times last Friday in 1972. The children were accompanied on the field trip by teachers, George Carpenter and Mrs. Clara McBreairty.

Ronaldo Morin, Times foreman, showed the students around and explained the steps of production for the paper.

MHS coaches received awards — Members of the coaching staff at Madawaska High School received awards for participating in a mandated program required by the MSPA. Awards were given to, Marc Tinkham, Dan Madore, Marc Michaud, Tim Doak, Brain Carpenter, Bob Plourde, Ed Marshall, Allen Guerrette, Larry Plourde, Vince Vanier, Bruce Martin, Paul Baker and Merilda Plourde.

Fishing fun — Reno Voisine of Frenchville sat on the porch of his custom-made ice fishing cabin on Long Lake during the Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. The derby attracted 601 registrants (that’s more than years past) and raised $5,000 for the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund. Jason Castonguay of Wallagrass reeled in the largest salmon; and Steve Bossie of Fort Kent, the largest togue.
