Fort Kent chamber annual meeting and awards celebration to be held virtually

FORT KENT, Maine — The Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce 74th annual meeting and awards ceremony will be held virtually for the second year in a row due to the ever-growing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have decided to hold it virtually again this year because of the uncertainty of the COVID status in town,” chamber president Dawn Daigle said. “It is important to still have awards even if doing so virtually because the chamber wants our members to know we acknowledge their accomplishments and we support them.”

The theme of the event is “Reach for the Stars.”

There will be four awards categories this year, the winners of which will only be unveiled during the ceremony. Last year’s winners were: Community Betterment Award, Tech N Trenz; Heritage Award, Fort Kent Historical Society; Hospitality Award, All Seasons Lakeside Cottages; Small Business Award, Jake “Break” Snack Bar; and Member of the Year Award, Fort Kent Lions Club.

The latest Citizen of the Year will also be announced. Last year Stephen Gagne was bestowed that honor.

WAGM assistant news director and sports director Rene Cloukey will be guest speaker during the online event.

All are invited to view the meeting and awards ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4. WFKTV Channel 4 will broadcast the meeting live and free of charge on the Fort Kent chamber website and Facebook page, as well as on the Channel 4 Facebook page and YouTube page.
