Fort Kent to be site of latest Drug Take Back Day event
FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Municipal Building will host the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The bi-annual event is held at thousands of collection sites throughout the country and in April collected 420 tons of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs to be disposed of.
“According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019,” said the DEA’s website.
Aroostook County Action Program and Power of Prevention will be available at the Fort Kent event to offer educational information about prescription drug abuse.
