Young woman with local ties earns PhD in chemistry

MEDFORD, Massachusetts — Dr. Kirsten Deprey, granddaughter of Gene and Edna Deprey of Madawaska, recently earned her PhD in chemistry from Tufts University .

For the last five years Dr. Deprey has worked on her research thesis, “Exploring the cell penetration of RNA therapeutics” and has written numerous papers on the topic that have been published in various scientific journals.

Dr. Deprey has accepted a research scientist position at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Massachusetts and will be working on RNAi Therapeutics, an innovative new class of medicines that target the ‘root’ genetic cause of a disease rather than treating the symptoms. Dr. Deprey earned her BS degree incChemistry from Elon University in North Carolina and currently resides in Natick, Massachusetts.
