Garage sale raises nearly $10,000 for faith programs

FORT KENT, Maine — A weekend garage sale inspired generosity and goodwill and raised nearly $10,000 to benefit the growing faith formation programs at St. John Vianney Parish.

The parish includes the following: St. Louis Church, Fort Kent; St. Mary Church, Eagle Lake; St. Charles Borromeo Church, Saint Francis; St. Joseph Church, Wallagrass; and St. John Church, St. John Plantation.

The sale, held Aug. 12-15 at St. Louis Church, raised $9,966.69.

“A very special thank you to our collection and unloading crew, our garage sale crew, and our pick-up and loading crew,” said Barbara Pelletier, the chair of the garage sale committee.

“A great big thank you to the giving hands and time of these volunteers. It couldn’t have happened without you,” Pelletier said.

The bulk of the proceeds — $9,539 — will go towards the purchase of supplies, curriculum creation and other costs associated with the parish’s faith formation program. The difference will benefit the parish’s food pantries.
