Valley schools dismiss students early due to heat

FORT KENT and MADAWASKA, Maine — Valley Unified school students are being dismissed at noon today due to heat conditions.

Students at Fort Kent Community High School, Fort Kent Elementary School, Valley Rivers Middle School and Madawaska Middle/High School will leave early, according to Superintendent Ben Sirois.

The National Weather Service in Caribou has projected a high of 88 degrees for Thursday, with temperatures leveling off to the high 60s or low 70s for the coming week.

Valley Unified’s decision comes nearly a week after schools in Caribou, Mars Hill and Van Buren released students early due to high heat indexes and a lack of air conditioning in the schools.
