Madawaska names senior honor parts

MADAWASKA, Maine — Three Madawaska High School graduates, Class of 2021, were worthy of special recognition at commencement exercises on June 11.

Justin Pelletier, son of Bruce and Stacie Pelletier, was afforded the prestigious accolade of valedictorian of his class.  He also received the English Award, Modern Language Award, Mathematics Award, Science Award, Social Studies Award, awarded to a senior for having achieved the highest ranking for four years of high school, the Boys’ Athletic Award for leadership, outstanding sportsmanship and all-around athletic ability, the American Legion Award for school citizenship and devotedness to class and school activities, the “I Dare You” Leadership Award for demonstrating a motivation for leadership, and the Presidential Academic Fitness Award.   

He was secretary of the student council, vice president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the TRiO Talent Search.  His extracurricular activities include Math Team, soccer, golf, baseball, and varsity Nordic skiing.  

Justin was awarded  a $100 Future of Maine College Aspirations Scholarship, a $250 American Legion Riders Scholarship, a $400 Aroostook League of Athletic Directors’ Scholarship, a $500 Mr. and Mrs. Ambroise Albert Scholarship for being the recipient of  the 2021 Principal’s Award, a $1,000 NorState Federal Credit Union Scholarship, a $1,000 Rotary Club of Edmundston Scholarship, a $2,000 George and Annie Knox Scholarship, renewable for four years for a total of $8,000, a $3,000 Maine Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship, and The University of Maine Pulp & Paper Scholarship, an award totaling $36,000 over a four-year period.  

Justin plans on attending The University of Maine at Orono this fall majoring in chemical engineering.

Robert Lausier, son of Tim and Janice Lausier, was also honored by receiving the accolade of salutatorian of his class.  He received the United States Marine Corps “Distinguished Athlete” Award and the Presidential Academic Fitness Award.  

Robbie was a member of the National Honor Society.  His extracurricular activities include soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and golf.  

Robbie was awarded a $100 Future of Maine College Aspirations Scholarship, a $300 Madawaska Knights of Columbus Council 2638 Scholarship, a $6,000 Nor’easter Scholarship, renewable for four years for a total of $24,000 and a $20,000 Presidential Scholarship, renewable for four years for a total of $80,000 from the University of New England.  

Robbie plans on attending The University of New England this fall majoring in pre-med.

Emma Pelletier, daughter of Wayne Pelletier and Sonya Poiesz, was recognized with the accolade of salutatorian of her class.  She was awarded the Girls’ Athletic Award for leadership, outstanding sportsmanship and all-around athletic ability, and the Presidential Academic Fitness Award.  

Emma was a member of TRiO Talent Search, Natural Helpers and the National Honor Society.  Her extracurricular activities include varsity Nordic skiing and soccer.  

Emma was awarded a $100 Future of Maine College Aspirations Scholarship, a $400 Aroostook League of Athletic Directors’ Scholarship, a $1,000 NorState Federal Credit Union Scholarship, a $2,000 George and Annie Knox Scholarship, renewable for four years for a total of $8,000,  and an $18,000 Merit Award from the University of New England, renewable for four years for a total of $72,000.   

Emma plans on attending The University of New England this fall majoring in pre-med.
