Valley Pet Grooming to open with client care in mind

MADAWASKA, Maine — A new pet groomer is opening on Aug. 1 on Main Street with the hopes of becoming a hub for locally minded pet care.

Valley Pet Grooming was founded by Temika Rafford and Nanette Levasseur — both groomers who were looking to start a pet salon under their own management. Rafford said they want to put the focus back on the client, and are willing to try out new cuts, treatments and styles.

“We try to personalize the grooming — whatever the clients want, we try to do,” Rafford said.  “We’re always open to trying new things. We’re always open to new ideas.”

The two also say they’re looking to incorporate a day-care aspect to the groomer’s, so that people can drop off their four-legged friends for a trim and not have to worry about other conflicts in their schedule.

In the future, Rafford said she hopes to feature pet supplies from local businesses and crafters.

“It’s a lot of work, [but] it’s exciting,” Rafford said.

The groomers are accepting dogs and cats of all sizes into their new location, and are offering $5 off to people who schedule during their first week.
