Chamber announces award recipients

MADAWASKA, Maine — The St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce and Tourism has announced the annual presentation of business awards will take place on Friday, June 25, at the Lakeview Restaurant at the chamber’s annual dinner.

The Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award for 2020 is Madawaska’s Paradis Shop ’n Save. The nomination for this award was made by Lorraine Marston, who said, “Paradis Shop ’n Save and Store Manager Brian Dubois have been strong supporters of this community through the years. You can always count on them to be there for you.”

She said during the past year of COVID-19, the store has provided special services to customers, going above and beyond to prepare and deliver groceries to those who could not do so for themselves.

“They have also supported their amazing staff and compensated them well for all the extra work and time exerted during this pandemic. It was an obvious choice for me,” Marston said.

The winner of the Outstanding Community Service award for 2020 is Paula Gendreau, currently employed at Ridgewood Estates.

Gendreau was nominated by last year’s recipient, Theresa Theriault, who stated, “Paula has a big heart and how she finds the time to do all she does is hard to fathom.”

Jackie Roy of Ridgewood Estates stated, “Paula works in our Activity Department, but will always pitch in anywhere she is needed. She is a kind, compassionate and dedicated employee who gives 100 percent.”

Correction: The original version of this story stated that Jackie Roy nominated Paula Gendreau. Theresa Theriault, last year’s Community Service Award recipient, actually nominated her.
