Beautification committee plans downtown cleanup Saturday

MADAWASKA, Maine — The Madawaska Beautification Committee thanks all Madawaska residents and friends who purchased memorial baskets to honor their loved ones while adding beauty to the downtown area.

Residents purchased 136 baskets in memory of their loved ones and all have been placed throughout the town. Each basket has a descriptor identifying for whom the basket  was purchased and family members purchasing the memorial basket.

This weekend, a legend will be produced and published so contributors will have the ability to locate the basket they purchased. The listings will be published on the St. John Valley Chamber’s Facebook page and on the Beautification Committee’s Facebook page. Hard copies will be displayed at the chamber office.

In an effort to show their appreciation for the community’s continued support, the Beautification Committee members will conduct a “downtown cleaning” of storefront windows along  Madawaska’s Main Street, beginning at Lajoie Monuments at one end of town and going to the Marden’s  Shopping Center businesses.

The cleaning is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, from 8 a.m. until completed.

If anyone would like to volunteer their time for this endeavor, please contact the Chamber  office at 207-728-7000. Volunteers are always welcome.
