Van Buren boys tennis advance to regional championship

VAN BUREN, Maine — Van Buren’s undefeated boys tennis team defended its 8-0 record in a semifinal home match against Orono on Saturday, June 5. The Crusaders won the match 3-2.

Van Buren advances to the regional championship, where the third-ranked Crusaders face top seed George Stevens Academy at Schenck High School in East Millinocket on Tuesday, June 8. 

In the semifinal, the individual boys results, with Van Buren players listed first were, in singles, Mannie Deschaine beat Noah Kreutz, 6-2, 7-5; Xavier Deschaine beat Tommy Owen, 6-2, 6-3; and Brady Laplante lost to Colby Pawson, 2-6, 2-6.

In doubles, Blake Martin and Mikail Deschaine beat Adam Henderson and Chris Cost-Kirkpatrick, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 and Sam Hebert and Eric Laplante lost to Hashim Wise and Harry Burns, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.

The girls team left playoff contention after losing a preliminary match versus Calais on Tuesday, June 1.
