Van Buren boys carry undefeated record into tennis playoff season, girls out in prelim match

VAN BUREN, Maine — The Crusaders boys defended their undefeated record in a 5-0 quarterfinal tennis match against Deer Isle Stonington at home on Wednesday. Their record moves to 7-0 on the season. 

The individual boys results, with Van Buren players listed first, were: in singles, Manny Deschaine beat Mason Woodman, 6-4, 6-4; Xavier Deschaine beat Dakota Emrick, 7-5, 6-2; and Brady Laplante won versus Henry Penfold, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles: Blake Martin and Mikail Deschaine beat Thomas Thompson and Owen Staples, 6-0 and Sam Hebert and Eric Laplante won by forfeit. 

The day prior, the girls lost a preliminary match away against Calais, 1-4. They leave the season with a 3-4 record. 

The individual girls results, with Van Buren players listed first, were: in singles, Renee Lapointe lost to Lexi Doten, 1-6, 3-6; Kylie Laplante lost to Cassie Carr 7-5, 1-6, 1-6; Emmie McIntyre beat Danielle White, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles: Mallory Beaulieu and Jazmine Ayotte lost to Laura Edgerly and Emma Saunders, 4-6, 1-6; and Abbie Cormier and Jayde Violette lost to Carlotta Cavazzini and Cadence Braughton, 4-6, 3-6.
