Ouellette smashes game winning hits for Warriors

FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Community High School Warrior softball team recorded two straight wins improving to 6-7 on the season.

The Warriors came back from a second inning 9-0 deficit against Wisdom Middle High School in Fort Kent Friday, May 21, to secure a 25-13 victory. That win was followed up with an 11-10 victory over Southern Aroostook Monday, May 24.

Against Wisdom, the Warriors rallied from that 9-0 deficit thanks to a total team effort.

“We were able to start hitting some holes in the fielding and drive in key runs to start the comeback,” Warriors Coach Tamar Philbrook said. “Once the momentum was going our way, it sparked all my batters and also triggered the girls to be fundamentally strong with fielding.”

Fort Kent senior Lyndsay Ouellette blasted a line drive down left field in the bottom of the sixth sending two runners home and locking in the 25-13 Warrior victory.

Philbrook attributed the comeback win to a “true team effort.”

“The girls played with a lot of heart and determination,” Philbrook said. “We’ve had many character building games that have tested our skill and ability to persevere when things aren’t going our way.”

The Warriors were tested again on their homefield Monday during their senior night game versus Southern Aroostook Community School.

Tied 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two Warriors on base, Ouellette struck again with a powerful line drive, plating the game-winning run.

“The strongest asset we have is 16 players with passion and determination,” Philbrook said.
