Ayotte earns Principal’s Award

VAN BUREN, Maine — Principal Karen DuBois announced today that Abigail A. Ayotte, the daughter of Michelle Ayotte and Chad Ayotte and a senior at Van Buren District Secondary School, has been selected to receive the 2021 Principal’s Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

DuBois identified some of the activities she believes make Ayotte a deserving candidate for this honor.

“Throughout her high school career at Van Buren District Secondary School, Abby has been a role model for her peers and the underclassmen.  Demonstrating leadership, Abby has been a class officer and has held office as a National Honor Society Member.  She has been active in the Student Senate, the Yearbook Committee, and Project Grad,” DuBois said.

“She participates in sports, excels in academics, and works part-time at the local nursing home, Borderview.  Abby is currently completing a CNA course and plans on attending Husson College to study nursing in the fall,” the principal said.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the MPA Honors Luncheon typically held in Bangor will not occur this year.  Instead, Ayotte, DuBois, and other award winners and their principals will attend the Principal’s Award Live Scholarship Drawing Event to be held on Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m.

Each senior recognized will be included in a drawing in which ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.
