West Main Pharmacy open for business in Fort Kent
FORT KENT, Maine — A local licensed, registered pharmacist who has served patients in the St. John Valley for almost 20 years, has branched out to open his own pharmacy in Fort Kent.
Jason Nadeau, RPh, 47, opened West Main Pharmacy, aptly located at 342 West Main St., in late March.
“I started the process of opening in August,” Nadeau said. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wife, family, friends and colleagues.”
Nadeau most recently worked at Walgreens in Madawaska, until the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I was faced with the prospects of either moving or giving it a go at opening my own pharmacy,” Nadeau said. “I couldn’t see myself leaving the area that I love and the people that I have been helping in a professional capacity for the past 19 years.”
Nadeau, who grew up in St. Francis, is a 1991 Fort Kent Community High School graduate. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Maine at Fort Kent with a concentration in math and science, and a bachelor’s in pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University.
West Main Pharmacy employs full-time technician Jenny Madore and cashier Rebekah Nadeau, who is Jason Nadeau’s daughter.
Madore, who worked as a receptionist at a local oil company for many years, and later worked as a rental management specialist, recently made the switch to a new career as a pharmacy technician.
“Jason is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive with his patients,” Madore said. “He communicates information to his patients in a way that they can understand on how it will impact their health.”
“We will take the time to answer all of our patients’ questions,” Nadeau said.
“We will go above and beyond for all of our patients to help in any way that we can.”
West Main Pharmacy accepts most insurances, provides free delivery and has a drive-thru window.
The independent retail pharmacy, one of two in Fort Kent, offers prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and medical supplies, such as oximeters, first aid products, incontinence supplies and blood glucose machines and supplies.
“I can order almost anything,” Nadeau said.
Jason Nadeau lives in St. John with his wife Jennifer Nadeau, stepsons Simon and Cody and the family Yorkipoo, Bella.
In his free time, Jason Nadeau enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and taking scenic rides through the northern Maine woods along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. He is also an avid golfer and has served on the board of the Fort Kent Golf Club.
