Fort Kent native hosts podcast that teaches young people ‘Finance Fundamentals’

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — A Fort Kent man who now works as a financial consultant down South has launched a podcast aimed at educating young people about financial decisions.

Dustin Dubay, 28, host of the podcast, “Finance Fundamentals,” is a 2010 Fort Kent Community High School graduate who earned his bachelor’s in accounting and master’s of business administration degrees from Husson University.

The podcast launched in early March and includes weekly episodes, the topics of which thus far include building a budget and the rules to live by, the basics of investing, the homebuying process, understanding your mortgage, and retirement savings and investment vehicles.

“I look at it like this — the earlier that people learn these things, the easier their lives will be,” Dubay said. “Nobody needs to be an expert in all of this, it’s just knowing enough to be able to navigate through the different life events we all face.”

“Unfortunately, we usually learn these things on the fly; when you go to buy that house and have to figure that all out,” Dubay added. “Being prepared ahead of time can really help. When it comes to investing there are a lot of things people don’t think about until it’s too late.”

The podcast recently expanded to include additional weekly episodes during which Dubay hosts interviews with individuals who have started their own businesses or who have expertise in a specific business industry.

“It may motivate young people to go down some of these paths and to learn these tasks and topics they were never exposed to,” Dubay said.

Dubay, who currently works for a management consulting firm in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, said he knew from a young age that his career path would be related to finance.

“My dad is a CPA,” Dubay said. “I grew up in a house surrounded by a business mind so I definitely grew up understanding more about money and investing, something that I really got interested in as I got older.”

Dubay’s father is Fort Kent accountant Dale Dubay. The family also includes mother Susan Dubay and sister Samantha Dubay.

Dustin Dubay is engaged to be married in June to fiancee Jennifer Bennett.

The “Finance Fundamentals” podcast is available free of charge for listeners on multiple media platforms including Apple, Audible, Spotify and Google.

In his free time, Dubay enjoys skiing, golfing and spending time with his fiancee and their Corgi, named Bear.
