Public invited to drive-thru birthday party for oldest living Fort Kent resident

FORT KENT, Maine — It’s not everyone who has the opportunity to celebrate their 105th birthday, but Eva Deschaine will on Saturday and the public is invited to a party in her honor.

Deschaine is Fort Kent’s oldest resident and lives at Crosswinds Residential Care.

Crosswinds is hosting a drive-thru birthday party at the home. Visitors are not allowed to enter Crosswinds at this time in order to keep residents safe from COVID-19.

Deschaine will watch the procession of vehicles through the activity room windows.

Activities aide Ruth Roy said she hopes many people will attend the party by driving past the windows to show support for Deschaine.

Some guests will stand outside the windows and sing “Happy Birthday” to Deschaine, who was born in 1916.

Deschaine and her late husband, Emile Deschaine, raised their 10 children in Little Black Lake and Fort Kent.

The couple was married for 55 years.

The drive-thru party for Eva Deschaine will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Crosswinds Residential Care. Birthday cake will be provided.
