Police seek information about latest tool theft

FORT KENT, Maine — Fort Kent Police are seeking information about the latest incident in a series of tool thefts in the town, Chief Tom Pelletier said.

Sometime between the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 19, and early morning of Wednesday, Jan. 20, someone broke into a garage on St. John Road belonging to Robert McBreairty and Sons logging. The culprit or culprits stole several thousand dollars worth of tools and other items, Chief Pelletier said.

A similar crime occurred in December 2020 at Northern Timber Trucking.

Pelletier said the tool thefts are related.

“We have been dealing with a number of burglaries in the area connected to the drug trade in the St. John Valley,” he said. “We’re finding that the tools and materials stolen are being sold to fund drug habits.”

Anyone with information about any of the thefts should call 207-834-5678.
