Angel Snowfest event canceled due to COVID-19, but fundraising continues to help cancer patients

ST. AGATHA, Maine — With COVID-19 cases reaching record numbers in Aroostook County, organizers of the Angel Snowfest annual fundraiser have decided to cancel the popular event slated for March 2021.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16, the Maine CDC reported a total of 194 active COVID-19 cases in Aroostook County. This number was propelled by 33 new cases of the virus reported in The County on Tuesday, by far the most it had seen in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We just felt for the safety of all involved, sponsors, members and customers, we want to be as cautious as necessary during these times,” Angel Snowfest committee member Stacie Linscott said.

Over the past seven years Angel Snowfest, held at Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha, has raised $208,605 for the local Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund, Angel Flight of New England, and Patient AirLift Services.

Angel Snowfest honors the memories of Dick and Carol Derosier, Lakeview Restaurant founders, who passed away in 2012 and 2013 respectively, both following battles with cancer.

The couple used Angel Flights to access cancer treatment and care in Boston and Philadelphia and both received support from the Edgar J. Paradis fund.

The Derosiers’ daughter, Jennifer Derosier Daigle and her husband Jason Daigle are now owners of the restaurant and serve on the Angel Snowfest committee.

Although Angel Snowfest has been canceled this winter, the committee is still working to raise funds.

“The organizations that we support are still operating and we feel that now more than ever they need our help,” Linscott said. “They haven’t thrown in the towel and neither are we. We live in a very supportive community and we want to help any way we can.”

“We are very appreciative of any donations and even $1 helps,” Linscott added.

The committee is also seeking sponsors for a potential Angel Sunfest event, to possibly be held next summer, depending on where things stand with COVID-19 at that time.

Angel Snowfest is an Internal Revenue Service approved 501(c)3 charitable organization. Donations can be mailed to: Angel Snow Fest, 9 Lakeview Drive, St. Agatha, ME, 04772

Lakeview will continue with specials at the restaurant throughout the winter to raise money for the Angel Snowfest supported charities.
